The LUCI Cities & Lighting Awards highlight urban lighting projects that enhance sustainability, safety, and cultural vibrancy in cities worldwide. Since 2002, LUCI has brought together municipalities, designers, researchers, and industry partners to leverage light as a tool for social, cultural, and economic development.
In 2024, the runner-up recognition went to Hamngatan and MDU Plaza in Eskilstuna, Sweden, where Tehomet supplied custom poles in close cooperation with Flux AB. The project transformed the square into a dynamic, human-centered space that harmonizes the urban environment with natural elements.
The design introduced innovative overhead contact line lighting at pedestrian crossings and integrated subtle, warm-toned lighting within the landscape architecture. This approach not only enhances connectivity and safety but also prioritizes ecological responsibility, with minimal light spill and energy-conscious solutions.
The outcome reflects the spirit of the LUCI Declaration on the Future of Urban Lighting, proving how lighting can improve both the social experience of public spaces and the environmental footprint of cities.
