Since joining Tehomet in late summer 2022, Petteri Ikäheimo has added a northern dimension to the company’s export operations. Based in Rovaniemi, Petteri is responsible for making Tehomet’s wooden lighting poles known across the EMEA region, covering Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
For Petteri, the move to Tehomet was a natural fit. Both share the same vision: promoting the use of Finnish wood, enhancing public spaces, and improving the quality of everyday environments through sustainable and beautifully crafted design.
“I was delighted to discover that Tehomet combines the people-oriented values of a family-owned business with the reach of a listed company. It’s a flexible, agile, and approachable organization, which makes it a very interesting place to work.”
Finnish Quality Travels Well
Petteri’s international experience has proven one thing: Finnish quality sells itself. Finland has a strong global reputation as a country, giving Finnish products an immediate advantage. Tehomet may not always be the cheapest option, but its commitment to high standards sets it apart.
Petteri also embraces the unique Finnish communication style as a strength: listening, building trust step by step, and nurturing long-term partnerships.
“Once trust is built, it lasts. That’s something people value everywhere in the world.”
Educating Customers About Wood
Having grown up in a family business producing wooden park products in Northern Finland, Petteri knows wood inside out — not only as a material, but also through hands-on installation work. He often highlights Finnish pine as a renewable, high-quality alternative to plastic, steel, or concrete.
Part of his role is to correct misconceptions about wood:
- Every wooden product is unique — no two pieces are identical.
- Cracks in wood are natural and harmless, unlike cracks in concrete or steel.
- Wooden structures are resilient, even under changing moisture conditions.
By sharing these insights, Petteri strengthens international confidence in wood as a modern, durable, and sustainable material.
Life Beyond Exports
Living in Rovaniemi, Petteri has the luxury of quick access to Lapland’s fells. His free time varies with the seasons: skiing, golfing, hiking, and cooking. The spring-winter season is his personal favorite — when Lapland is at its absolute best.
